I was invited to join a team of eight Filipino travel bloggers challenged to define and discover their own Kuala Lumpur adventure, sponsored by Airphil Express, the fastest growing budget airline in the Philippines. We flew to Kuala Lumpur on their inaugural flight to the Malaysian capital last night, June 21st. This is the third international route to date, after Singapore and Hong Kong. This blogger tour was made possible with the support of Tourism Malaysia and Travel Guard Chartis, the airline’s travel insurance provider.

The maiden flight was generally smooth and enjoyable. I kept myself busy by ordering a ham and cheese turnover and bottled tea for dinner from the onboard menu, before browsing the Express Boutique catalogue for some inflight duty-free shopping. I purchased a 24/7 wristwatch for only USD 15 (I hope this will help me make the most of my time in Malaysia!).

Upon arriving at KL, our plane was entertainingly welcomed with a customary blast of water from two fire trucks and a welcoming party dressed in traditional costumes, who gave all the passengers Tourism Malaysia souvenirs. Special guests were then ushered to a midnight press conference at the Kuala Lumpur LCCT terminal for the formal welcome and buffet.
