Travel Gear Review | Starmobile Knight Luxe Android Phone – the Thinnest Starmobile Device Ever!
This is my product review of Starmobile Knight Luxe – a sleek, elegant and power-packed Android smartphone.
Starmobile – one of the most innovative tech brands in the Philippines – lent me one of their top-of-the-line Android smartphones, the Knight Luxe, to road-test on my travels. I used the phone over the course of more than two weeks, taking it with me on trips to Metro Manila, Batangas and Baguio.
Upon unboxing the device, I was immediately impressed by its incredibly slim profile and elegant finish. After all, the Knight Luxe is only 6.85 mm thin – the thinnest Starmobile device ever! The phone slipped easily into my pocket, yet was large enough to carry a screen where websites and media can be comfortably viewed. To exude a premium look, the sleek phone has a diamond-cut aluminum frame with shiny beveled edges – which doesn’t appeal to my personal taste as I prefer a matte finish – and scratch-textured removable cover, which provides some much-desired grip. This model comes in two colors: gold and gray.
When I first turned on the unit, the Android Kitkat 4.4 operating system was sluggish and some of the apps like Google Play weren’t functioning properly, even on reliable 3G and WiFi signals. But after downloading and installing the system update and updated versions of the apps, the phone started working beautifully – courtesy of its 1.4 GHz Octa-Core ARM Cortex A7 processor.
Another winning feature is the 5-inch AMOLED screen which displays images and videos in rich colors and deep contrasts, showcasing the travel photos I captured with the 13MP AF Samsung ISOCELL built-in camera in captivating detail. The camera also takes videos 1080p at 30 fps. Check out my unedited sample photos below!
While the design and display were definitely standout aspects of the Knight Luxe, I expected more from its battery life. Like other Android smartphones I previously owned, the 2050 mAh Li-Po battery fared averagely. After a full charge, my Knight Luxe lasted for seven hours with heavy use (i.e. brightest screen setting and frequent internet browsing over 3G data).
For both its fast and powerful technology packaged in a sexy and sophisticated shell, however, the Starmobile Knight Luxe definitely provides fantastic value, especially when you factor in its affordable price. No wonder this premium Android phone was the top pick at a recent episode of GMA News TV’s PopTalk, maintaining a four-year streak by Starmobile on the review show!
